A damper pedal is a very important part of playing the piano. It serves two purposes. First, it assists the pianist in producing a legato (playing smoothly connected notes) in passages where no fingering is available to make this otherwise possible. Secondly, raising the damper pedal causes all the strings to vibrate sympathetically with whichever notes are being played, which greatly enriches the piano’s tone.
If you have a keyboard that will accept a pedal and you don’t have
one, the M-Audio SP-2 Sustain Pedal is my favorite. It is not expensive and it is suppose to work on all keyboards.
Look at the back panel on your keyboard and if it says, “Sustain” or “Pedal”, then it will work with a pedal. You can also look in your manual.
